Nebraska State Police told ANN Friday the Civil Air Patrol discovered the wreckage of a single engine plane in southern Custer County. The Extra 300 aerobatic plane was reported missing after taking off from Lee Bird Field (LBF) in North Platte, NE on Thursday, June 5.

Killed in the crash was the plane’s pilot and sole occupant. He has been identified as 39-year-old Stanley E. Dunn of Fort Collins, CO.

The single engine plane (file photo of type, below) registered to a company in Fort Collins, Colorado took off Thursday morning from the North Platte Regional Airport en route to the Lewis University Airport in Will County, IL. The plane was reported missing early Thursday evening.

The wreckage of the plane was located shortly after 8:30 am Friday morning, in a farm field approximately 13 miles north of Gothenburg.

The Nebraska State Patrol, Dawson & Custer County Sheriff’s Offices responded to the scene. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are on the scene and in charge of the crash investigation.
