GAMA Cheers The Return Of GA To Reagan National

Bunce Praises "Commitment To Get This Done"

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) praised Wednesday's announcement of the resumption of general aviation flights at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).

"First, let me thank DHS Deputy Secretary Michael Jackson, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for TSA David Stone, and FAA Administrator Marion Blakey for their commitment to get this done," said GAMA President and CEO Pete Bunce. "The general aviation community also owes much to the Members of Congress who worked diligently with us and the federal government towards a solution. Without their personal attention, today's announcement would not have happened."

"Second, this announcement marks the culmination of years of hard work to open an airport closed to general aviation after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The general aviation community has worked side-by-side with federal security officials for an effective plan that balances freedom of movement and access with security."

"GAMA will continue to work closely with the TSA, FAA, and other federal agencies during this transition period. It is our hope that once the current plan for GA access is in place we can work to increase the number of gateway cities and operators who can access our nation's capital."
