Quickbuilding An RV Even Quicker -- The Legal Way

Synergy Air Offers Its Weeklong Class In Oregon, Weekend Roadshow In Arizona

So you've been thinking of building one of the RV kit aircraft from Van's Aircraft, Inc. You really like the look of their QuickBuild Kits, but you have questions. Is it something I can really do? Do I have to do everything myself? Is professional assistance legal? Well, one thing has never been questioned: preparing and educating yourself before you start an airplane project is legal... and smart.

And that's the point of Synergy Air's new - and unique - five day workshop: QUICKBUILD STRATEGIES, scheduled for March 2-6, 2009. Although the workshop is based around the Van's QuickBuild kit, everything it contains is equally applicable to Van's Standard kits, too.

If a week-long class on airplanes brings up visions of long days in a dreary hangar, rest assured.  The workshop will be held in beautiful Sunriver, Oregon, one of the nation's top destination resorts. When you've had your fill of airplanes, you can ski, raft, hike, bike, dine... or simply watch the sun set over the Cascade peaks.

Three-time RV builder Wally Anderson and his staff will lead five days of presentations, discussions, demonstrations and hands-on learning projects, all designed to help build an airplane efficiently and quickly.

They begin by covering the "long view." These are topics that most beginning builders never consider  -- in fact, they may not even know that they should be considered:

  • How to budget the project
  • How to look ahead and plan the next step - or several steps
  • How to save money on tools and supplies
  • How to use shop time efficiently (an often overlooked but very important topic)
  • How to put together a shop that makes the time productive

Once the big picture is firmly established, they get down to specifics - topics that usually cost first time airplane builders many, many hours of wasted time and money. They will teach, among many other things, how to:

  • Deal with fiberglass quickly and get it right the first time
  • How to build a logical and trouble-free wiring system
  • Get a professional-looking canopy
  • Prepare (really prepare!) your airplane for paint.

The time and knowledge gained from this intensive week can save countless hours and many times the cost of the workshop.  Participants will leave with a large notebook and CD including photos, notes and diagrams covering newly learned skills, as well as many discount offers from major aircraft and equipment suppliers.

Can't get away to Oregon for a week? Synergy Air is also taking its fiberglass workshop show on the road: destination, Wickenburg, AZ, March 10-11, 2009. Now you can learn everything you need to know in a weekend workshop, entitled "Fiberglass From Start to Finish" - and leave winter behind at the same time.

Most builders of metal airplanes are surprised to find out just how much fiberglass work there can be. Fiberglass cowlings, wheel pants, fairings and canopy skirts are common, and until one learns how to handle the materials and processes, they can be time-consuming and difficult.

Led by experts with years of experience building, finishing and painting showplanes, this two-day course gives a thorough grounding in the materials and techniques needed to finish the canopy, cowling, wheel fairings and intersection fairings. Along with demonstrations of tips, 'tricks' and techniques, there will be plenty of hands-on practice, leaving the participant with the skills to finish fiberglass parts with confidence.
