Airplane Collides With Skydiver

No Major Injuries

Pilot David Sifft of Skydive Midwest dropped seven skydivers out of the plane at 13,000 feet near Yorkville Wisconsin Thursday. While returning to land, the wing of his plane hit one of the skydivers while only 25 feet above the ground.

The Pilatus PC 6 veered right and crashed into trees on the north side of the Sylvania Airport, leaving Sifft, age 52, with facial injuries and substantially damaging the aircraft, according to FAA spokesman Tony Molinaro speaking to the Tribune.

Joseph Malgioglio, age 30, was struck in the back by the wing of the plane. Both he and Sifft were treated at a local hospital and released.

Sifft is an experienced pilot with 17,000 flight hours, and Malgioglio had made 6,000 parachute jumps according to Lt. Connie Mallwitz of the Racine County Sheriff's Department.

"It's just a fluke that both of them are alive," she said, "considering that one of them got hit by an airplane wing" and the other was involved in a plane crash.
