Fire Danger Scotches Pyrotechnics At Garfield County, CO, Air Show

Aeroshell Acrobatic Team Added To The Show Lineup

The continuing threat of wildfires in the western portion of the U.S. has prompted Garfield County, CO, officials to institute a ban on pyrotechnics at its upcoming air show July 13-14.

Airport director Brian Condie said in a statement released Friday that "In light of the Stage 2 fire restrictions implemented June 22, airport staff members have changed our featured events to preserve the safety and well-being of our community."

The Aspen Times reports that Condie said the move was in keeping with the fire bans in place from other state and federal agencies.

But that doesn't mean there won't be plenty to see during the show. Organizers also said they have added the Aeroshell aerobatic team to the lineup, which will be the first time the T-6 team has flown a show in the state of Colorado, according to lead pilot Mark Henley.

The lineup also includes the "Otto the Helicopter" lights show, as well as a Friday night concert by Matt Younkin.

All activities will take place at Garfield County Airport (KRIL) in Rifle, CO.
