Pilot Lost In TX Sonex Accident

Was Attempting To Return To Airport

The pilot of a homebuilt Sonex single-engine plane (file photo of type, right) was lost Wednesday morning, when his aircraft came down just north of Jones Field Airport (F00) in Bonham, TX.

The pilot was identified as Ronnie Wren, 61. Witnesses told FAA investigators Wren took off to the north, but then made a sharp right turn in an apparent attempt to return to the field. It was then the pilot apparently lost control of the plane.

Authorities were notified of the accident around 0700 CDT Wednesday morning, according to KXII-12.

Officials in Bonham say the accident is the first within the city limits in at least 15 years.

"When we get the call, we come up and find all the facts first, then we go out and search for stuff like that," aviation safety inspector Oscar Thomas said, when asked to comment on a possible cause of the accident.

FAA officials say an exact cause of the accident should be known in the next few weeks.
