Robert Conyers Joins Baldwin Aviation

New Post Follows More Than 22 Years At Global Aerospace

Robert J. "Bob" Conyers (pictured, right)  has joined Baldwin Aviation as Director of Safety Management. An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) and Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Conyers comes to Baldwin from Global Aerospace, where he has served for more than two decades, most recently as Manager of General Aviation Safety.

"Bob's extensive experience in conducting safety audits with flight departments, commercial companies, FBOs, airports and law enforcement agencies dovetails very effectively with our established record of helping flight departments create and maintain an effective Safety Management System (SMS)," said Don Baldwin, chief executive officer of Baldwin Aviation. "In his previous roles, he's conducted more than 300 such audits, so he knows what to look for, what works and why. We're really pleased to have him join our team. He adds another dimension, and a valuable one, since he can offer the insights he has gained in conducting audits to help ensure our clients' readiness for the audits they will face as a regular requirement of obtaining approval to operate their aircraft internationally and in qualifying for and maintaining IS-BAO Registration. Baldwin Aviation does not perform audits but Bob's experience and current certification as an IS-BAO auditor brings to our clients an extraordinary insight to help them prepare for and maintain their SMS registration."

During his 22+ years at Global Aerospace, Conyers has also been active on a variety of committees whose focus has been safety and training. He served as a member of the National Air Transportation Association's (NATA's) Flight training Committee for the past 18 years and has chaired both the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) Air Traffic Procedures Advisory Committee (1997-2001) and the National Business Aviation Association's (NBAA's) Airspace & Air Traffic Committee (1995-2000). He is currently a member of the NBAA Safety Committee, as well.

Prior to joining Global Aerospace, he was Director of Operations at American Flyers, in Islip, New York from 1984-1988. He also spent five years as an Air Traffic Controller at JFK Airport from 1976 to 1981, after serving eight years in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator from 1968-1976. Mr. Conyers has logged almost 7,000 hours of flight time, including more than 1,800 hours in turbine aircraft and more than 1,600 hours as an instructor.

A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor of science degree in Mathematics, he has also completed the University of Southern California Systems Safety Management program and graduated from the Aircraft Accident Investigation program at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University.
