Racing Drones Combatting Flaming Kites Along The Gaza-Israel Border

Israeli UAVs Also Dropping Tear Gas On Protesters

During the protests that erupted along the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip this week,  Palestinians launched burning kites across the fence separating the two countries, which led to wildfires that scorched agricultural land and other areas in Israeli territory.

Looking for an answer, the Israeli Defense Forces turned to local hobbyist drone racing pilots, enlisting them to fly their fast drones into the kites, or snag them with fishing hooks to bring them down before they could cross the border, according to a report from The Drive.

It's not known how successful they drone pilots have been, but at least one YouTube video shows a drone pulling a kite that had been snagged by a hook.

There have also been reports about Israel using quadcopters to drop large quantities of tear gas onto the Palestinian protesters. The drones drop tear gas canisters into groups of protesters in an effort to get them to disperse.

The protests have come in the wake of the opening of the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem.
