DOD Details VXX Work Split Locations

Over A Third Of The Work To Be Performed Outside The United States

The Department of Defense has issued a statement detailing the amount of work that will be performed on the Lockheed-Martin VXX presidential helicopter replacement, by city, state and country.

The Systems Development and Demonstration phase of the contract, which ANN previously reported totalled just under $1.8 billion, consists of engineering design and integration work for the myriad communications, navigation and mission systems required to perform the support mission for the President of the United States.

The phase also includes a comprehensive test and evaluation program, and production of five aircraft to introduce the operational capability. The locations where the SDD work will be performed, and the percentage of work assigned to each, are:

  • Owego (NY), 31 percent
  • Amarillo (TX), 27 percent
  • Yeovil, United Kingdom, 21 percent
  • Agusta, Cascina Costa, Italy, 15 percent
  • Lynn (MA), 3 percent
  • Rancho Santa Margarita (CA), 1 percent
  • Grand Rapids (MI), 1 percent
  • Denton (TX), 1 percent

The SDD phase is expected to be completed by September 2011, and the contract funds for the program will not expire at the end of this fiscal year. The contracting activity for this program is the Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River (MD).
