Crowds Force Israel To Call Off Air Strike

May Result In No More Warnings

There's yet another wrinkle in the continuing tensions in the Mideast... as hundreds of Palestinians crowded around the homes of two suspected militants Sunday. Those human shields forced Israel to call off planned air strikes to go after the militants.

Analysts say this latest tactic may require Israelis to re-evaluate their aerial campaign in the Gaza Strip. Israel has conducted a series of strikes recently, that local media say have wounded nine Palestinians.

The Associated Press reports crowds gathered outside the home of Mohammedweil Baroud, commander in the Popular Resistance Committees, after the Israeli army gave him 30 minutes to leave his house Saturday night

"We came here to protect this fighter, to protect his house and to prove that we are capable of defeating this Zionist policy," said local Hamas leader Nizar Rayan.

Baroud leads the segment of the PRC responsible for firing homemade rockets at Israel.

Israel says such warnings are meant to avoid unnecessary casualties when striking homes and other buildings the military believes house weapons.

This latest development may cause Israel to reevaluate those airstrikes... or, those warnings.
