EPA Proposes 'Endangerment Finding' for Lead Emissions from Aircraft Engines

We knew it was coming in light of the nearly rabid race toward 'green' one-ups-manship, but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a proposed determination that emissions of lead from aircraft that operate on leaded fuel cause or contribute to air pollution that may reasonably be anticipated to endanger public health and welfare.

The Four Crew-5 Members Are Now Officially Part Of Expedition 68

The 11 crew members now living aboard the International Space Station had a short day on Friday following Thursday’s arrival of the SpaceX Crew-5 mission. The eight astronauts and three cosmonauts had a long night following the docking of the SpaceX Dragon Endurance crew ship. The four Crew-5 members are now officially Expedition 68 flight engineers and will spend the next few days getting used to life on orbit and familiarizing themselves with space station systems.

On Tuesday, 2 August 2022, a Snowbirds aircraft suffered what Canadian military officials called a hard landing while departing North Peace Regional Airport (CYXJ) in Fort St. John, British Columbia. The aircraft was heavily damaged, prompting the Air Force to cancel all remaining performances in 2022. The pilot escaped injury. The Canadian Department of National Defense has since announced that a faulty oil filter had been determined to be the cause of the Fort St. John accident. Regrettably, the Snowbird’s 2022 season shan’t resume.

On 6 October 2022, Oman's SalamAir announced it had signed a firm order with Embraer—the Brazilian air-framer and aerospace powerhouse—for six E195-E2 medium-range, narrow-body airliners. The $934.6-million deal contains options for an additional six aircraft, and calls for deliveries to commence in late 2023. SalamAir’s E195-E2s will feature a comfortable, dual-class, 135-seat configuration.

  On September 28, 2022, about 0900 mountain standard time, a Grumman American Aviation AA5B airplane, N74349, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Sahuarita, Arizona. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot’s partner, he planned to fly from the Flying Diamond Airport (6AZ8), Sahuarita, Arizona, to Ryan Field Airport (RYN), Tucson, Arizona, to practice touch and go landings and then return to 6AZ8.

AD 2016-26-08 required incorporating revisions into the airworthiness limitations section (ALS) of the maintenance program and inspecting the main landing gear (MLG) attachment bolts for cracks and corrosion. Since the FAA issued AD 2016-26-08, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) superseded its mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) to add a new life limit for certain MLG actuator bottom attachment bolts and then superseded it again to add new life limit

AD 2022-19-07 Requires Modifying The Total Air Temperature (TAT) Probe Heater Electrical Circuit

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Piaggio Aviation S.p.A. (Piaggio) Model P-180 airplanes. This AD results from mandatory continuing airworthiness information (MCAI) originated by an aviation authority of another country to identify and correct an unsafe condition on an aviation product. The MCAI identifies the unsafe condition as accumulation of water and subsequent freezing in the pitot-tube, which results in pitot-tube blockage.
