Rocket Lab has received authorization from the FAA to resume launches. The approval comes fewer than three weeks after Rocket Lab experienced an anomaly during its 20th launch, resulting in the loss of the mission. Rocket Lab is leading the mishap investigation into the anomaly with oversight from the FAA, the federal licensing body for U.S. launch vehicles. While the FAA has confirmed that Rocket Lab’s launch license remains active, Rocket Lab will continue with a rigorous internal review into the anomaly.

The Goodyear newest blimp, Wingfoot Three, will continue a long tradition of Oshkosh Goodyear appearances with a visit to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration,” which is July 26-August 1 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Goodyear’s Wingfoot Three is scheduled to arrive in Oshkosh on Monday, July 26, and will be on display and be flying at various times during the event until Saturday, July 31. At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2021, Wingfoot Three pilots will also participate at a variety of events, as AirVenture is one of the few air shows on the Goodyear Blimp schedule this year.

On May 20, 2021, about 1030 eastern daylight time, a Mooney M20K, N9514R, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Dawson, Georgia. The pilot and passenger were seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. According to the pilot, he had recently purchased the airplane. He conducted a preflight inspection with no anomalies noted and departed Orlando Apopka Airport (X04), Apopka, Florida, about 0815 for a flight to Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport (BHM), Birmingham, Alabama. About 90 minutes into the flight the engine began “making noises and started rumbling.”

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Mooney International Corporation (Mooney) Model M20V airplanes. This AD was prompted by reports of short circuit and arcing of the alternator main power cable in the engine compartment. Bombardier has confirmed an agreement between its Learjet subsidiary and the US Air Force in support of the Battlefield Airborne Communications Node (BACN) program. The Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract provides the USAF with flexible ordering and includes an immediate firm order for one Global 6000 aircraft, with as many as five additional Global 6000 aircraft.
