What a successful Sun n Fun Aero Space Expo! The first major aviation event in over a year is in the books... Though the numbers are still being tabulated, Sun ‘n Fun Boss Lites Leenhouts declared Saturday the best ever for that day and predicted a strong possibility that SnF21 would break all previous records for the week. Based on what we saw, we  agree. Monday, NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter became the first aircraft in history to make a powered, controlled flight on another planet. USCG MH-65 Assists In Rescue Of 1 From The Water Near Key Largo

Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter Crew Assists Kayaker

The Coast Guard rescued one person from the water near Key Largo after his kayak capsized Tuesday. Rescued was: Chris Hogan, 34. Sector Key West Command Center watchstanders received a phone call stating a kayaker in the vicinity of Key Largo was in distress after his kayak capsized. The watchstanders directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Islamorada 33-foot boat crew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist the kayaker. Once on scene, the Dolphin aircrew hoisted Hogan and safely transferred him to shore with no health concerns reported.

H125 Performance Increase Certified By EASA

Up To +140kg Of Additional Payload Coming From Engine Power Release

Airbus Helicopters has received EASA certification for the power upgrade of its single-engine H125 helicopter. Announced at Heli-Expo last year, this major evolution increases the aircraft’s power by up to 10% by making full use of the available power of the existing Safran Helicopter Engines’ Arriel 2D. While the maximum take-off weight of the aircraft remains unchanged, its external and internal load lifting capabilities are increased for a large part of the flight domain (by up to +140 kg), while the hover ceiling OGE at maximum take-off weight is increased by more than 1,500 ft (up to 12,600 ft).

Pittsburgh Jet Center (PJC) has revealed that that the ownership group of Jets.com has taken an equity interest in the Part 135 air carrier. NTSB Prelim: Cessna 177B

Described The Weather As “An Absolute Perfect Day To Fly.”

On April 7, 2021, about 1408 eastern daylight time, a Cessna 177B airplane, N24RG, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Great Valley, New York. The pilot was seriously injured, and the pilot-rated passenger was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot, who owned the airplane, held a private pilot certificate with a rating for airplane single-engine land. AD: Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation Helicopters

AD 2021-08-18 Prompted By The Discovery That Certain Part Numbers Listed In AD 2021-04-16 Are Incorrect

The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2021-04-16 which applied to certain Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation (Sikorsky) Model S-92A helicopters. AD 2021-04-16 required a one-time inspection of the landing gear for components with non-conforming threads and removal of any non-conforming threaded hinge pin and main landing gear (MLG) and nose landing gear (NLG) actuator pins. AD 2021-04-16 also prohibited installing certain part-numbered hinge and actuator pins on any helicopter. This AD requires the same actions but corrects erroneous part numbers. ANN's Daily Aero-Term (04.21.21): Fuel Remaining

Fuel Remaining A phrase used by either pilots or controllers when relating to the fuel remaining on board until actual fuel exhaustion. When transmitting such information in response to either a controller question or pilot initiated cautionary advisory to air traffic control, pilots will state the APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF MINUTES the flight can continue with the fuel remaining. All reserve fuel SHOULD BE INCLUDED in the time stated, as should an allowance for established fuel gauge system error.
