Boeing and Oman Air have announced an order for five Boeing Next-Generation 737-900ER airplanes at the 2013 Paris Air Show. The order, previously unidentified on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website, is valued at $473 million at current list prices.

UK Warships Are To Benefit From A New UAV Surveillance Aircraft

ScanEagle is a maritime reconnaissance asset that can be launched off the back of Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships day or night to gather intelligence and survey the wider area of operations. Built by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing Defense UK Limited, the ScanEagle is the first maritime-specific unmanned air system capability to be delivered in support of naval operations. It will complement the existing intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets used on operations such as helicopters and long-range radar.

GE Aviation has announced plans to break ground on a new parts manufacturing plant in Asheville, NC later this year. The new facility will be adjacent to an existing machining plant owned by GE.

Industry Leader Salvatore Miraglia Is New Chairman Of The Board

The Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) Board of Trustees has selected former Timken senior executive Salvatore Miraglia, as its new chairman.  He succeeds Brigadier General (ret) Peter Hennessey, a vice president at Battelle, who completes a three-year term as chairman and will remain on the board.

New European Carrier Acquires Two For Regional Routes

A new commercial airline in Europe, Air Lituanica of Vilnius, Lithuania, has acquired two Embraer E-Jets. The carrier will launch scheduled service on June 30th with one EMBRAER 170 leased from a third party. In July, Air Lituanica will add another E-Jet, an EMBRAER 175, leased from ECC Leasing Company, Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Embraer.

Expanding High-Capacity Ka-Band Footprint Enable Easier Airline Transition To High-Speed In-Flight Service

ViaSat Inc. and Boeing have agreed to work together towards offering ViaSat Ka-band airborne satellite terminals as a factory line-fit option on Boeing commercial aircraft. Airlines will be able to specify ViaSat in-flight connectivity on new Boeing aircraft and take delivery of the planes with the equipment already installed.

Had Been Hospitalized For An 'Undisclosed Illness'

The manager of Boca Raton Airport (KBCT) in Florida passed away last Sunday at Boca Raton Regional Hospital where he had been admitted for an "undisclosed illness."

She answered that ad thinking that wing walking would be an exciting way to enter the airshow business, not to mention a lot of fun. Her first time airborne on the wing also happened to be her first show....
