Civil Aviation Authority Addresses Discrepancies

Considering Cape Canaveral For Commercial Operations

Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) Space Systems is looking at Florida as a possible location for commercial human spaceflight programs and facilities. SNC’s winged orbital crew vehicle, the Dream Chaser, is in development with plans to launch on the United Launch Alliance Atlas V vehicle from Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. In addition to launch operations, SNC is interested in exploring landing, vehicle processing and other capabilities within the state.

STC Expected Within Two Months

Max-Viz’s Enhanced Vision System for Hawker business jets in the field is on track for Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval within the next two months. Seventy-Nine Galaxy Aircraft Now Flying With Modified Avionics

The 79th and final C-5 Galaxy aircraft of the current Avionics Modernization Program was delivered to the Air Force at a ceremony held April 27th at Travis Air Force Base in California. Aircraft 70-448 will be assigned to the Air Force Reserve 433rd Airlift Wing at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas.

Anomalous Propagation Non-standard atmospheric temperature or moisture gradients will cause all or part of the radar beam to propagate along a non-normal path. When non-standard index-of-refraction distributions prevail, "abnormal" or "anomalous" propagation occurs. When abnormal downward bending occurs, it is called "superrefraction." If the beam is refracted downward sufficiently, it will illuminate the ground and return signals to the radar from distances further than is normally associated with ground targets. The term "subrefraction" is applied when there is abnormal upward bending of the radar beam.
