Embraer signed a firm order for 13 Legacy 650 executive jets with China’s Minsheng Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., in a ceremony held Monday at NBAA 2011. The first aircraft is expected to be delivered by the end of this year, with the remainder to be delivered within the next five years.

Mexico, India Certify Embraer's Phenom Executive Jets

Phenom 300 Now Certified In 40 countries

Embraer said at the NBAA annual Meeting and Convention in Las Vegas that it has recently received certification for the Phenom 300 light executive jet to operate in Mexico and India, and the Phenom 100 entry level jet to operate in the Ukraine. Last month, the company also received FAA certification for the optional belted lavatory seat for the Phenom 300, an option that has been widely requested by customers.

New Prognostics Algorithm 'Moves Beyond Diagnostics' To Save Time, Money

Gulfstream has announced its new G650 will feature something it calls PlaneConnectHTM Health and Trend Monitoring. It's software which can predict, sometimes well in advance, an aircraft system or part headed for failure. At NBAA this week, GE filled in some background, revealing that its own Integrated Vehicle Health Monitoring, or IVHM for short, will power Gulfstream's system.

Gary Kelley To Retire, Veteran Team Takes Over

Garmin has named Philip Straub as vice president, managing director – aviation. In this newly created role, Straub will lead all facets of Garmin’s aviation business, including product development, flight operations, certification, sales, marketing, and support. The move follows the retirement announcement of Gary Kelley, its vice president of marketing, at the end of the year.

Australian CH-47D Chinook Helicopters Resume Flight Ops

The Australian Army has lifted the precautionary suspension of flying operations for the CH-47D Chinook helicopter put in place on September 30th following the identification of possible issues relating to the operation of the aircraft's Advanced Flight Control System (AFCS) in certain flight conditions.

Embraer, GECAS Seal Contract For Another Six E-Jets

GECAS E-Jets Portfolio Grows To 101 Aircraft

A contract for six firm orders and six options of the Embraer 190, with the right to convert to the Embraer 195, has been signed between the Brazilian planemaker and GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of General Electric Company. The total value of the deal, which will be included in Embraer's fourth quarter of 2011 backlog, is $256.8 million at list price.

CAM Governing Board Announces New Officers

Fred Adams Named New Vice Chair, Succeeding Jack Stockman

The NBAA's Certified Aviation Manager (CAM) Governing Board has elected Fred Adams of Basin Electric Power Cooperative as its new vice chairman. Adams, one of the first class of CAMs certified in 2003, is taking over the role from Jack Stockmann of Corporate Aircraft Services, who has served as vice chair since the CAM Program was launched. One of the original organizers of the program, Stockmann will stay on the governing board for the remaining two years of his tenure.

Advanced Version Of The Fury Breaks 100 Total Hours; Continues Progress Toward Deployment-Ready Status

Development of a new, long-endurance UAS reached another milestone Thursday, as the Fury 1500 Special Mission Unmanned Aerial System achieved a flight lasting over 14 hours. This new version of the Fury was developed by AME Unmanned Air Systems (AME UAS) in San Luis Obispo, CA.

Armed Aerial Scout 72X (AAS-72X) Arrives At AUSA Convention

In anticipation of a competitive flight demonstration, EADS North America’s Armed Aerial Scout 72X (AAS-72X) is on display at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) convention this week in Washington, DC. The AAS-72X, an armed derivative of the Army’s UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter manufactured by the company’s American Eurocopter business unit, has completed the majority of its militarization requirements in a company-funded development effort that began in 2009.
