NASA Awards Ares I Upper Stage Engine Contract

And The Winner Is...

NASA told ANN Monday it has signed a $1.2 billion contract with Pratt and Whitney Rocketdyne Inc. for the design, development, testing and evaluation of the J-2X engine that will power the upper stages of the Ares I and Ares V launch vehicles.

Embraer announces that Republic Airlines, a subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings, has increased its orders for the Embraer 175 by 13 firm orders, totaling $403 million, at list price, based on January 2007 economic conditions. Eight aircraft of this order were already included in Embraer's first quarter backlog as "Undisclosed," and the other five refer to options confirmed during the second quarter.

Bombardier Flexjet, the fractional business jet ownership program of Bombardier Aerospace, announced Monday the Flexjet maintenance organization has been recognized for the eighth time by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with its highest honor for maintenance training – the FAA Diamond Award. Flexjet is the only fractional jet ownership program that has received the award so many times.

New Mustang Pilot Lost in Take and Landing Drills

Jet Assisted Takeoff -- A system of auxiliary thrust used for heavily loaded aircraft to assist their takeoff. JATO rockets are fired at the moment the aircraft rotates for takeoff, and the boost provides the additional thrust needed to get the aircraft airborne.
