Base Commander Makes Announcement In Video
There will be an air show this year at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar despite the absence of the Blue Angels and other military flight demonstrations.
MCAS Miramar base commander Col. John Farnam released a video Monday saying that there will be an air show in 2013. "It is my honor to host the 2013 Miramar Air Show October 4th and 5th," he said.
Farnam reiterated that the Blue Angels would not be part of the show, "and I won't be able to execute the flight demonstration part of the Marine Air-Ground task force. But that doesn't mean that your Marine Corps and the MAGTAF are not going to be on display."
Farnam called San Diego a "unique community, and its relationship with Miramar is unmatched anywhere in the United States." He said that he has been welcomed by San Diego and the communities surrounding the base, and "the air show is my opportunity to open the gates to Miramar, to allow you onto the base, to bring you to a place where most people don't get to go ... onto our flight line, and this year, even uniquely, onto our runways."
Farnam said that many aircraft will be on static display for viewing by the public, and that visitors to the show will have a chance to talk to the pilots and other Marines at the base. "They are our most valuable resource. They are who I need you to see and understand," he said.
"So, while the show's going to be a little bit different this year, I tell you it's going to be a time to remember for you, and for your family," Farnam said. "So please do me the honor of your presence in October."
