Canadian Man Survives Encounter With Spinning Prop

Things could have turned out far worse for an unidentified Canadian man this weekend. He suffered non-life threatening injuries, after accidentally walking into the spinning propeller of a Cessna 150.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in the small hamlet of Kleefield, located about 30 miles southeast of Winnipeg. Authorities said the 50-year-old man was struck by the plane as it taxied from a local church to a nearby hangar.

"They were about to cross [the road] and one of the men who was helping him walked in front of the propeller," RCMP Staff Sgt. Steve Saunders told the Winnipeg Sun. "He had his vehicle there and he was trying to make sure that the wing of the plane was going to clear his vehicle."

The plane did clear his car... but the man apparently did not see the spinning propeller. He suffered a dislocated shoulder, and cuts to his right side.

"The chances of surviving impact with a propeller on any aircraft is remote," Saunders said. "This gentleman is extremely fortunate."

The man is now hospitalized in Winnipeg. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is conducting an investigation into the incident, along with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
