Additional Lawsuits Filed For TWA Flight 800 Information

Documentary Producer Looking For Release Of Military Records

One of the producers of a documentary presenting an alternate theory about TWA Flight 800 has filed multiple federal lawsuits in an effort to obtain military records from the day in question.

Thomas Stalcup told the Associated Press that the information he received previously from the Missile Defense Agency and Navy Special Warfare Command in response to his FOIA requests was "inadequate."

Stalcup, a physicist, is one of the people who believe that TWA Flight 800 was brought down by a missile fired by the Navy during a training exercise. He and the other producers of the documentary say they have compelling evidence for the missile theory, though the NTSB continues to hold that an electrical short led the Boeing 747's center fuel tank to explode.

Stalcup said prior to the release of the film that that several people have come forward to say there was an "external force" that caused the explosion, and that there is no evidence that the explosion originated in the center fuel tank of the Boeing 747 on July 17, 1996. The documentary producers petitioned the NTSB to re-open the investigation into the incident, saying investigators said that after a review of FAA radar evidence as well as new evidence not available to the NTSB at the time of the accident, the probable cause determination is "erroneous and should be reconsidered and modified accordingly."
