Spirit Pulls Out Of Mile-High City

Low cost carrier Spirit Airlines has given up the ghost in Denver and will cease operations there after September 7th.

"There are other markets out there with greater potential," said Spirit spokeswoman Lynne Koreman in an interview with the Denver Post.

Spirit has been flying twice daily from Denver to Detroit and Fort Lauderdale (FL) since launching service from the Mile High City more than two years ago. But Spirit faced tough competition from the likes of Ted, Frontier, United and Northwest.

But Koreman wouldn't admit defeat. "It really is more about the potential of other markets. It's not about Denver or any one competitor," she told the Post. Further, she said, Spirit might return to Denver if things change.
