They Caught the Bad Guy

...but The Airplane, Deputy Got Hurt

It was Friday morning when two men walked into the southside branch of the Bank of Commerce in lovely Trenton (TN). They were not there for normal transactions, apparently, as one was carrying a sawed-off shotgun, and the other, a handgun. Even so, they got some money handed to them in plastic bags.

A truck driver watched the transaction, and made a call to police, as he watched. The robbery had happened at about 10:30; before fifteen minutes had passed, the cops were chasing the bad guys.

After a short chase down a gravel road, the two suspects jumped from the car, and ran in different directions. One was immediately caught. The other stayed at large for a while, until an as-yet-unidentified local citizen offered to take Deputy Sheriff Tim Webb up to look for him. [The craft is registered to a Nashville man, Clarence Collett --ed.]

Sure enough, it wasn't long until the intrepid airborne duo had located the alleged perp, who was quickly apprehended. Unfortunately, it wasn't long after that, the little Cessna went down, after a total of about an hour and a half in the air.

The pilot was able to walk away; Deputy Webb ended up in Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with minor injuries, according to local reports.

[Trenton's landmark high school was cleverly converted into an apartment complex some years back. In addition to continuing to provide a great, central location for singles to congregate, it helps former students cope with bad memories. Imagine -- it's so easy, now, to just walk out of that Chemistry room, whenever you want! --ed.]
