Atlanta Falcons QB Caught With Suspicious Substance At MIA Checkpoint

Water Bottle Had Hidden Compartment, Marijuana-Like Odor

Despite setting a all-time record for rushing over 1,000 yards this season -- unusual for a quarterback -- Atlanta Falcons player Michael Vick couldn't evade security screeners at Miami International Airport this week.

According to a police report obtained by South Florida Sun-Sentinel, TSA screeners discovered a 20-ounce bottle in Vick's carry-on luggage as he prepared to board an AirTran flight to Atlanta Wednesday night. The player was reluctant to hand the bottle over to screeners, but eventually relented. The screener then tossed the bottle into a recycling bin, and allowed Vick to continue past the checkpoint.

However, the suspicious screener then reportedly took the bottle from the bin, and discovered it contained a hidden compartment. Inside that compartment, according to the report, was a "small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana."

The TSA called police, who took the bottle away for testing.

No charges have been filed against Vick as of yet... but on Thursday, Falcons President and General Manager Rich McKay said he and new Falcons coach Bobby Petrino met with the Pro Bowl quarterback, and expressed their disappointment. McKay also said, depending on what the test discovers, the National Football League and the team could take action against the player... on top of possible criminal charges.

"He knows he let a lot of people down," McKay said. "Not just the coaches, not just me, not just (Falcons owner) Arthur Blank, but the fans."

This incident is the latest to bring unwanted attention to Vick (right), who is the highest-paid quarterback in the league with a 10-year, $130 million contract with the Falcons. Last April, the player settled a lawsuit filed by a woman who claimed Vick knowingly gave her herpes. And following a November loss to the New Orleans Saints, Vick flipped off Atlanta fans who heckled the team -- which was caught by television cameras.

For that incident, Vick was fined $10,000 by the team, and donated another $10,000 to charity. If charges are brought against Vick for this latest incident, the punishment could include being ousted from the team completely.
