Universal Avionics Sponsors Dick Rutan As AEA Keynote Speaker

Several New Products Being Shown At The Convention

Universal Avionics is pleased to continue its sponsorship of the Official Opening Ceremonies at the 56th Annual Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Opening Ceremonies will take place at 8:30AM on Tuesday, March 26th in the Grand Ballroom South of the MGM Grand Resort and Convention Center.

One of the most popular sessions of the convention, this year’s Official Opening Ceremonies will feature aviation record holder, Dick Rutan (pictured), as the keynote speaker.

As a pilot, entrepreneur and adventurer, Mr. Rutan founded Voyager Aircraft Inc. in early 1981. Mr. Rutan is best known for making history in December 1986, completing a nine-day, nonstop and non-refueled flight around the world in a Voyager, establishing a flight-endurance record. This record earned Mr. Rutan the Presidential Citizen’s Medal of Honor, presented to him at a special ceremony by President Ronald Reagan. More recently, in July 2002, Mr. Rutan was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio. To this day, no aircraft has topped the Voyager’s 26,358 statute miles.

Before setting record flights, Mr. Rutan joined the United States Air Force at age 19, later becoming a lieutenant. Serving during the Vietnam War, Mr. Rutan completed 325 combat missions with the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing at Phu Cat Air Base. Through his military career, Mr. Rutan was awarded the Silver Star, five Distinguished Flying Crosses, 16 Air Medals and a Purple Heart.

Among the products being introduced by Universal Avionics this week is Airdrop, a new optional module available for the Multi-Mission Management System (MMMS) with the next major software release, Software Control Number (SCN) 1101. SCN 1101 is expected to become available second quarter of 2013.

Developed to enhance operational efficiency and support special mission operations, Airdrop calculates an Air Release Point (ARP), and provides guidance and steering to a position offset where the package should exit the aircraft for a landing at the desired delivery location. Airdrop supports Low Altitude Computed Air Release Point (CARP), High Altitude Computed Air Release Point (HARP) and Very Low Altitude (VLA) package delivery.

Universal Avionics has experienced success in positioning a wide range of products for military and special mission aircraft. Solutions for helicopter, turboprop and light twin turbine all the way through air transport category aircraft in the Military sector are supported by Universal.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view and operate Universal Avionics’ Airdrop Module in booth 329 at the 56th Annual AEA International Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
