Four Lost In Missouri Plane Downing

Piper Cherokee Owned By Ida County Flyers

A single-engine 1966 Piper Cherokee that departed Jefferson City Saturday morning crashed in southeast Missouri, killing all four passengers. It was scheduled for a four-hour flight to Muscle Shoals, AL, reported KFVS-12 Television.

According to FlightAware.com, the plane was at 3,400 feet at 8:57 am CDT. The flight plan listed Northwest Alabama Regional Airport (KMSL) as its destination, with a proposed departure of 7:30 am CDT and arrival at 10:30 am CDT. Its actual departure was 7:54 am, according to the flight tracking site.

Missouri Highway Patrol initially responded to the crash, but were unable to find the site. A search helicopter eventually spotted the crash site late Saturday afternoon.

Highway Patrol officials say a witness reported seeing parts of the plane falling from the sky in Iron County.

Officials have not released the identity of the pilot or passengers. According to the FAA aircraft registry, the plane is owned by Ida County Flyers, of Battle Creek, IA.
