Aeroflot Testing New Security Measures

Russian flag carrier Aeroflot is testing a new aviation security system that uses video cameras, X-ray machines and metal detectors.

"The system includes a number of goal-oriented programs and comprises a set of measures, beginning from entry to the airways terminal to boarding an aircraft," deputy head of Aeroflot's aviation security service Azat Zaripov, in an interview with Echo Radio in Moscow.

The system even uses psychologists to profile passengers. "On the whole, the company runs 100-percent checks on everything which comes on board while using technical means operating on different principles," Zaripov said.

Aeroflot is also putting armed security agents on board some flights, he said.

Last year, Zaripov told Echo Radio, there were 126 security incidents on Aeroflot flights. In eleven cases, the "trouble-makers" were refused a return flight and entered into a database as potentially dangerous.
