Boeing High On Organizations' Green List For A Second Year

Recognized As A Leader In Climate Change Disclosure

For the second consecutive year, the Carbon Disclosure Project recognized Boeing as one of the world's leading companies in reporting climate-change risks and taking actions to improve environmental performance. The Carbon Disclosure Project, an investor-funded nonprofit organization that produces the most comprehensive survey of global corporate carbon emissions, listed The Boeing Company in its 2010 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.

"Boeing's environmental improvement stems directly from our innovative and engaged employees," said Mary Armstrong, vice president of Environment, Health and Safety.  "We've seen many instances where impressive cost savings and productivity improvements resulted from employee-led activities to reduce our environmental footprint.  This has helped us enhance our product performance, reduce costs and meet the needs of our customers while becoming more environmentally efficient."

Companies recognized in the Leadership Index demonstrate good internal data management practices for understanding greenhouse gas emissions, including energy use, according to Paul Dickinson, chief executive of the Carbon Disclosure Project. "Companies that make this index have also demonstrated clear consideration of how climate change is and will impact their business.  As companies' understanding of climate change issues grows, they are better placed to take positive action to manage and mitigate risks."

Compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers, the index highlights companies within the Financial Times Stock Exchange Global Equity Index Series (Global 500) and S&P 500 Index that have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance in climate change disclosure practices.  The index, compiled for some 534 institutional investors with combined assets under management in excess of $64 trillion, evaluates the performance of some 2,500 companies around the globe.

At major U.S. facilities since 2002, Boeing reduced CO2 emissions by 31 percent, energy consumption by 32 percent, water consumption by 43 percent and hazardous-waste generation by 38 percent on a revenue-adjusted basis.
