USAF IFS Program To Use Avidyne's TAS600

Avidyne Corporation announced at last week's AirVenture 2006 show in Oshkosh, WI that the US Air Force Air Education Training Command Initial Flight Screening (IFS) program will be using Avidyne TAS600 active surveillance traffic advisory systems.

As Aero-News reported earlier this year, the Air Force Air Education Training Command chose Doss Aviation of Colorado Springs, CO to provide the IFS program for US Air Force Pilots. Using 44 DA-20 and one DA-40 aircraft, the program is a 40-day, 25-hour flight screening course for up to 1,700 cadets annually.

“Doss Aviation’s decision to add the TAS600 to the IFS aircraft underscores what a great match in performance and mission there is between the Avidyne traffic systems and the Diamond aircraft,” Diamond President Peter Maurer. “The combination represents an excellent way to deliver additional value and safety to our customers.”

The TAS600 series uses high-performance technology typically associated with traffic alert & collision avoidance system (TCAS) systems. Heads-up Audible Position Alerting calls out target bearing, range and relative altitude using the same alert terminology as Air Traffic Control.

“We welcome the opportunity to play a role in the flight training of future generations of US Air Force pilots,” said Dan Schwinn, president of Avidyne Corporation. “It marks a milestone in our strategy to expand our presence in the GA market with innovative aircraft manufacturers such as Diamond and in the retrofit installation market.”
