Getting Close: Eclipse 500 Certification Projected Within Weeks

Eclipse Aviation has confirmed for ANN that it expects to achieve FAA certification of the Eclipse 500 jet in the next few weeks. While the company was anticipating FAA certification in late June, continued supplier delays have pushed the schedule back.

A National Transportation and Safety Board (NTSB) preliminary report suggests an inflight breakup preceded the May 31, 2006, crash that killed the pilot and three passengers aboard a Piper Dakota near Manahawkin, NJ.

No Sign Of Reported North Korea Spy Plane

US-North Korean tensions mounted -- and currency exchange markets reacted -- to unsubstantiated reports of a US military plane crash in North Korea on Thursday. Runway 6/24 at Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, CT was shut down for 3 1/2 hours Friday afternoon after the landing gear on a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-owned King Air collapsed on the landing roll.

Source: GE Aviation president and CEO Scott Donnelly, on the company's desire to develop a new engine for Airbus's upcoming revised A350. Standing in the company's way, however, is the projected pricetag for developing such an engine -- an estimated $1 billion, which is why Donnelly isn't ready to commit to developing a new engine just yet.
