New Proposals Seen As Harmful To General And Biz Aviation
National Business Aviation Association President and CEO Ed
Bolen urged organization members Monday to contact their
congressional representatives and voice their opposition to two
proposals that could, according to NBAA, potentially prove very
harmful to the aviation industry.
The Minnesota Office of the Legislative Auditor issued its
findings Tuesday in the case involving a state department's
controversial purchase of a new Beechcraft Bonanza. The finding
states the MN Department of Transportation was within the letter of
the law when it changed the specs of the deal at the last minute,
but did a poor job of communicating those changes -- which
effectively shut out competing Cirrus Design Corp.
NetJets Aviation (NJA) tells ANN that NetJets pilots have
accepted the tentative labor agreement signed on October 8, 2005.
The agreement, which was endorsed by an overwhelming 84 percent of
the pilots, calls for improved wages, job security and increased
productivity and details a mutual commitment to a labor partnership
that will support NetJets' service commitment to owners.
The Engine Alliance -- an equal partnership between General
Electric and Pratt & Whitney, and whose GP7200 engine is to
power over half the confirmed customer-ordered A380s -- has
completed all the required tests for certification of the
powerplant by the US Federal Aviation Administration. The
completion of the tests, with expected certification by the end of
the year, clears the way for first flight on the A380 in 2006.
Class 3 EFB System Features Moving Map, 80 Gigabyte Memory
Boeing announced at the 2005 Dubai Air Show the company will
install the Boeing Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system on six
737-800 airplanes to be delivered to EgyptAir beginning in July
2006.
The National Transportation Safety Board has issued its Factual
Report on the August 16, 2005 downing of a West
Caribbean Airways MD-82 that claimed the lives of all 160 people
onboard. The findings, according to the NTSB, concur
with those of French investigators, as well as the Comite de
Investigation de Accicente Aereos (CIAA) of Venezuela.
Awarded $3,100 In Damages In Breach-Of-Contract Suit
In hindsight, Continental Airlines probably wishes it had bumped
someone else-- anyone else -- off a Christmas 2004 flight
from Newark, NJ to Telluride, CO. Instead, the airline bumped
Thatcher A. Stone and his daughter from the overbooked plane.
If you've ever tried to catch a nap on a loud airliner, but are
one of those people who don't find the low rumbling of rushing air
and guzzling turbofans particularly soothing, NASA may have some
welcome news for you: the agency, working with three corporations,
have completed flight tests of a special B777 designed to help
quiet jet aircraft noise, both in the passenger cabin and on the
ground.
The last US Navy Sea King helicopter to be delivered was
received by Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) team lead Bob Kelly,
H-3 Sea King deputy program manager, in early November, in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, Canada.
China Southern Airlines -- which touts its aircraft as "the
largest and most technically advanced fleet in The People's
Republic of China" -- recently put that fleet to good use, by
flying a load of special "passengers" from its cargo hub at
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to Shenzhen, China.
"They were betting that Thatcher Stone was some ignorant [jerk]
who didn't know how to get money out of Continental. They picked
the wrong guy."

Continental Airlines over a flight Stone and his daughter were
bumped from last Christmas. Stone was awarded $3,100 in damages by
a judge for, among other things, loss of his luggage (that did make
the flight) for four days.
