No Sale... Yet

Boeing/Wichita Employees Told No Decisions Made

So far, the decision on whether Boeing will sell its commercial plant in Wichita (KS) is... no decision at all.

In an email to workers on Tuesday, plant manager Jeff Turner and other top Boeing executives wrote, "We have proven time and again that we can meet the challenges of today's competitive marketplace. Regardless of the outcome of this study, we will continue to improve everything we do, focus on being market-driven, and continue to bring value to our customers."

The email made five main points:

  • No decision has been made whether Boeing Wichita will or will not be sold. A decision is still expected by year’s end.
  • Interested parties and Boeing continue to exchange sale information.
  • A public announcement will be made if a sale agreement is reached.
  • If there’s a sale, a closing date will be determined no less than 30 days after the sale announcement which is when ownership effectively changes.
  • If there is a sale, no personnel will be transferred to the new company until the closing occurs.

For the most part, a lot of employees at the plant said the email offered nothing new. But they did find out that, should a buyer purchase the plant and hire the workers there, those who accept positions will not receive severance pay.
