Eden Prairie Minnesota Crash Kills Two

Beech 18 Was Attempting To Return To The Airport Just After Takeoff

A 1958 Beech 18 piloted by its owner, Wayne Monson, went down minutes after departing Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, MN. Monson was attempting to return to the airport at the time of the crash.

According to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis-St. Paul, Monson had bought the vintage aircraft more than a year ago, and was restoring it for personal use. "It was up and running," his 19-year-old son, Brandon, of Virginia, MN told the paper. "He was just checking everything in the air."

Witnesses said the plane had difficulty getting airborne, and that it "dipped" before going down. FAA spokesperson Elizabeth Cory said the Monson attempted to return to the airport immediately after takeoff.

Monson had homes in Hibbing, MN and Osceola, WI. He was departing Eden Prairie for Osceola at the time of the accident. The second pilot reportedly on board the aircraft has not been identified. FAA and NTSB will investigate the accident.
