Salina Airport Schedules Runway Closure

20 Days Set Aside for Re-Paving, New Lighting Installation

The Salina Municipal Airport primary runway will be closed from September 8 to 27 due to airport improvement construction.  Runway 4-22 will periodically be shut down during this time.

During the closure, crews will place asphalt and complete the LED taxiway lighting installation.

"It's all going to come together in those 20 days," said Kenny Bieker, the Authority's manager of facilities and construction.  "They will remove the remainder of the concrete shouldering.  Right now the only thing it is doing is causing an FOD problem."

When pavement deteriorates, the biggest problem is that it starts to unravel and create an unsmooth surface to land on and foreign object debris issues.  It, along with the other taxiways, has exceeded its expected life.  Improvements will also be made to the shoulders of taxiway Alpha, Charlie, Delta and Echo.
