Minnesota Family Survives Landing Accident

Pilot Attempts To Land At Amery Airport, WI

Many stories about plane accidents do not have happy endings. This one does.

Polk County sheriff officials say 64-year old pilot Lawrence Stoffel, his 28-year old wife Rowena, and the six-year old child escaped serious injury when their plane crashed while attempting to land at Amery Airport in Western Wisconsin Sunday, reported the Associated Press.

All three were taken to a local hospital following the crash of their single-engine Cessna with non-life-threatening injuries. (The FAA prelim, below, notes the accident aircraft was a two-seat Cessna 150 -- Ed.)

Authorities say Stoffel was trying to land the Cessna around 4:30 pm when the aircraft "suddenly went up, and then came down" in some trees near the runway.

Firefighters foamed the area to prevent leaking fuel from igniting.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.
