Popular Aviation Artist's Painting Accepted For Competition

Sam Lyons' "Polished Perfection" To Be Exhibited

Aero-News has learned that "Polished Perfection," a stunning painting of a mirror-like Luscombe by well-known artist Sam Lyons, was selected for exhibition in the 13th Annual Horizons of Flight Aviation Art Exhibition and Competition. The juried aviation art show will be held at CAE SimuFlite's Dallas/Fort Worth facility from January 30 through April 28, 2006, as will be open to the general public, as well as pilots training at SimuFlite.

Lyons was pleased by news. "I painted 'Polished Perfection' for myself, just because the Luscombe was such a beautiful airplane," he said. "But having it chosen for this honor is something special."

Over 100 entries were submitted for consideration, according to Lyons, but only 32 were selected by a pool of other aviation artists to be in the competition.

"SimuFlite is proud to be one of the premier aviation art exhibits in the world," said exhibition coordinator Margie Badyna.

The 'Polished Perfection' original was created in acrylic on canvas. The featured Luscombe won the Grand Champion Classic trophy at the 2004 Sun ‘n Fun EAA Fly-In. Lyons says he saw it there, and thought it would make a perfect subject for a painting. As you can see, he captured the gleaming surface of the aluminum aircraft in all its beauty.

"SimuFlite is proud to be one of the premier aviation art exhibits in the world," said Exhibition Coordinator Margie Badyna.

Winners of the competition will be announced in February. The original "Polished Perfection" is for sale, as well as prints in a Limited Edition of 300 signed and numbered with 30 Artist Proofs.
