AMA Drone Report 01.17.19: DJI Smart Controller, UVify Swarm, Indemnis Chute

Also: Heathrow Drone Paranoia, GDU SAGA, New UK Drone Regs, State Farm Waiver

DJI introduced a new remote controller for its drones at CES 2019.

The Smart Controller features an ultra-bright display screen and controls optimized for DJI drones. Using a 5.5” screen built into the controller itself, the Smart Controller allows pilots to quickly get their drone in the air without the need to connect a mobile device. It can be paired with DJI's newest drones including Mavic 2 Zoom and Mavic 2 Pro which use DJI's OcuSync 2.0 video transmission system, displaying vivid images in Full HD resolution. UVify has unveiled its IFO swarm lightshow drone at CES in Las Vegas. After reviewing the existing lightshow swarm drones currently available, UVify decided to build the IFO swarm lightshow drone from the ground up to be "the longest flying and most efficient in its class." According to a company news release, the UVify IFO is the world’s first swarm lightshow drone available to the general public as a service, and boasts several innovative features that will bring the beauty of drone lightshows to people around the world. The Indemnis Nexus parachute system for the DJI Inspire 2 drone has been validated as compliant with the new international standard for drone parachutes, following a strenuous testing procedure at the New York UAS Test Site in Rome, NY managed by NUAIR. This chute opens a wide range of new possibilities for professional drone operators intending to demonstrate that they can safely and reliably fly over people as well as sensitive locations. The FAA prohibits most drone operations directly over people as a safety precaution. Professional drone operators can apply for a waiver from that restriction if they can demonstrate they have robust safety mitigations in place. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of the AMA Drone Report!!!
