Gulfstream Workers to Get Extended Summer Vacation

Over 1000 Workers to Get 4-Week Furlough in July

Gulfstream has announced a four-week shutdown at its manufacturing facility in Savannah (GA), from June 30 through July 27, a move that will send just over 1000 workers home.

All direct manufacturing employees, including management; and certain support employees also, will be affected. Customer deliveries, however, will not be affected by the temporary shutdown.

Bryan Moss, Gulfstream's president, explained: "With sales at a level well below prior years, we don't need to build as many planes as originally planned. We determined that a shutdown and furlough was the best way to reduce the number of planes to match market demands."

Affected employees will be allowed to take vacation or use accrued personal business time, if they so choose. They will also maintain benefits, and keep their medical insurance in effect. Furlough time will also count towards seniority.

The Savannah facility manufactures the G300, G400, and G500 and -550.
