In-Flight Information System Shows More Detail
Passengers on certain
aircraft equipped with Rockwell Collins's Airshow 4000 inflight
information system now can see their position plotted -- on some
really superdetailed maps.
Rockwell Collins is adding high resolution maps with satellite
image detail to the moving map display and flight information
system. The new Hi-Focus maps offer passengers up-close views for a
wide variety of cities and points of interest, revealing details
such as rivers, roads, buildings and other features on their travel
route and at their destination.
"Rockwell Collins's introduction of Hi-Focus maps for business
jets delivers on our commitment to keep finding new and better ways
to keep business jet travelers informed and connected during
flight," said Matt Smith, senior director Airshow Systems for
Rockwell Collins.
The new Hi-Focus maps provide more than 60 times the detail and
resolution of previous map offerings, with an available worldwide
standard resolution of 15 meters per pixel, providing individual
map views of approximately 70 square kilometers (43 square
miles). The maps are produced from actual satellite
photographs, which results in a new level of real-time detail for
the Airshow 4000.
Customers can select individual Hi-Focus maps for their
preferred cities and points of interest, choosing from a worldwide
map database. Airshow 4000 provides real-time flight information
and moving maps, along with up-to-the-minute news, financial,
sports and weather data. The Airshow 4000 system has been installed
on over a dozen leading aircraft types.
