LSA Features Historic Military Paint Scheme
American Legend Aircraft Company decided Memorial Day was the
right time to announce a new option on its Legend Cub aircraft that
pays homage to the historic Piper L-4, L-18 and L-21 liaison
aircraft that saw service in the US Army and Air Force in the
1940s. The company's new LSA-certified Legend Combat features a
design reminiscent of those classic planes, while also offering the
latest high-tech instrumentation and modern electronics.
The Legend Combat made its inaugural debut at the EAA's
Southwest Regional Fly-in in Hondo, TX earlier this month, where it
was on static display during the show. It features military green
paint, with black and white markings of the 1940s.
The original Legend Cub is a two-place aircraft designed for the
recreational and light-sport pilot. The aircraft is similar in
design and appearance to vintage Piper J-3, PA-11 and PA-18
Cubs.
The new military paint scheme is being offered by American
Legend as an option. It is patterned after the L-4, L-18 and L-21
designated, Piper-produced aircraft dating from 1942 to 1962. These
aircraft were commonly nicknamed Grasshoppers... a
nickname that also applies to the Legend Cub,
American Legend says, as both the Legend Cub and Legend Combat are
well-suited to takeoffs and landings on grass strips.
Both the Legend Cub and Legend Combat are manufactured in
Sulphur Springs, TX.
American Legend Aircraft Company offers the new Legend Cub and
Legend Combat with a variety of standard features, including doors
on both sides of the fuselage, an aircraft electrical system with
starter, wing-mounted fuel tanks, and a three-inch wider cabin over
the original Cub. A 100-hp Continental O-200 engine is the sole
powerplant.
