The FAA has published a NOTAM establishing a
30-nm TFR with a 18,000-foot ceiling for President Bush's trip
to Minneapolis on Thursday. The TFR is centered approximately
halfway between Crystal and Anoka Co.-Blaine Airports, 13.1 nm from
the MSP VOR on the 349 radial, and will be in effect from 1155
local until 1445 local on June 19.
All aircraft operations within a 0-10 nm radius are prohibited,
except as described in the notam.
Aircraft operating within a 10-30 nm radius must be on an active
IFR or VFR flight plan, must be in constant radio contact with air
traffic control (ATC), and must be transmitting a discrete
ATC-assigned transponder code. All aircraft operations are limited
to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields, but ATC may
authorize transit operations. Aircraft may not loiter.
AOPA tells ANN that they continue to lobby for
more-reasonably-sized Presidential movement TFRs, absent a specific
and credible threat. AOPA President Phil Boyer met this week with
Gordon Englander, the deputy secretary of Homeland Security, to
discuss Presidential TFRs, among other topics. The association
maintains almost daily contact with FAA, the Transportation
Security Administration, and security officials responsible for the
President's security.
