City Of Denver To Pay UA Pilot $300,000

Had Been Accused Of Indecent Exposure, But Charges Were Dismissed

A United Airlines pilot who was exonerated on indecent exposure charges will receive $300,000 from the City of Denver after the charges were dismissed by a judge.

The alleged incident occurred in September, 2018. Captain Andrew Collins was arrested after being accused of standing naked in front of a 10th floor hotel window overlooking the Denver International Airport terminal.

Denver television station KMGH-TV reports that Collins, a 22-year veteran pilot from Leesburg, VA, said he did not know he was visible from the terminal when he partially opened the curtains in his room early that morning before getting into the shower. He said he could not see the terminal from where he was standing.

While a judge dismissed the criminal charges against Collins in March, he was suspended for six months by United.

The settlement was announced in a news release from Collins' attorney Craig Sliverman. In the release, Collins said he wants the hotel, DIA Westin, to warn guests about the "openness" of the rooms' interiors, and that guests' rights to privacy need to be respected.
