Raytheon Introduces Hawker 800Xpi

New Avionics And More

Raytheon Aircraft Company announced the new and improved Hawker 800XPi at the 2005 European Business Association Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland. The new Hawker 800XPi will feature upgraded Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, a new interior and cabin management system and even a 5-year limited warranty on the airframe, engines, and avionics.

"These upgrades to the Hawker 800XPi make it the most capable, dependable, and reliable midsize jet in the market," said Brad Hatt, president and general manager of Hawker Business at Raytheon Aircraft Company. "The Hawker 800XP, the world's best-selling midsize jet, captures the perfect balance of speed, range, and comfort. It is selectively being upgraded to meet the demanding requirements of today's aircraft operators."

Starting in mid-2005, standard features include the Rockwell Collins Integrated Flight Information Systems (IFIS) that increases the existing capabilities of the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suites and provides pilots with additional decision-making tools, electronic charts and enhanced map overlays.

The Pro Line 21 Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) radios provide operators with more reliable communication and navigation, with less weight and volume, while providing necessary architecture for future digital communications with Air Traffic Control.

Optional 3D flight management system mapping, paperless cockpit and real-time graphical cockpit weather will be offered also. The graphical cockpit weather upgrade offers World Wide Weather with Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) provided by Universal Weather and Aviation, Inc., as well as United States Weather (both graphical and textual) provided by XM Weather.

The Hawker 800XPi interior and cabin management upgrade increases the aft baggage volume and usability and fulfills customer requests. The aircraft's three place divan moved to the opposite side of the cabin, to allow for more continuous baggage volume behind the lav mirror and into the adjoining cabin. Golf clubs, larger luggage and large boxes are now easily accommodated in this new baggage area, as well as the forward traditional area. Also, both luggage areas are easily accessible while in flight.

The Rockwell Collins Airshow 21 Cabin Management System includes user-friendly LCD touch screens at each seat plus one on each divan armrest. From the CEO chair, an occupant can control the entire cabin temperature, lighting and entertainment systems. The entire cabin is lit with LED lighting that saves a significant amount in operating expenses over the lifespan of an aircraft.

Other features include:

  • New 15-inch video monitors (versus previous 13.8-inch) recessed in the bulkheads.
  • New tailoring for the cabin seats and divan
  • Redesigned front baggage upper storage cabin that increases usable space and offers improved latching
  • Flush-fitting galley doors with invisible hinges and improved usable space
  • New FAA-approved safety design latches on all cabinetry
  • More functional and robust tables, side ledges, cup holders, storage lids and trim
  • Improved cabin sound system with more powerful speakers at better locations

The new cabin is also designed to be maintenance-friendly. All switches can be disassembled and re-installed without removing any interior components, reducing man-hours for replacement by approximately five hours per switch.

Current Hawker 800XP's that are equipped with the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite can be retrofit with this package. The work will be performed exclusively at authorized Hawker Aircraft Service and Raytheon Aircraft Service centers.
