Weight-Shift Course Submitted
Sport Aviation
Specialties tells ANN that FAA has accepted their 16-hour
experimental light-sport aircraft (ELSA) repairman course for
powered parachutes. Their first PPC course is scheduled for April
29-30, 2006 at Beloit Airport, Beloit WI, just across the state
line from Rockford, IL.
In addition, they recently submitted to FAA an equivalent course
for weight-shift aircraft; acceptance is anticipated by about May
15. The first weight-shift course is tentatively scheduled for late
June in Kennesaw, GA.
Courses in other locations are being planned.
These courses are in addition to the Sport Aviation Specialties
fixed-wing repairman course, which was FAA-accepted in late 2005.
Since then, the company has conducted four courses, which have been
well received.
The courses provide the required training for owners or would-be
owners of ELSAs to be eligible for an FAA light-sport repairman
certificate, thus authorizing them to perform their own annual
condition inspections.
Courses meet on Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 500 pm both
days. Subjects covered include those used during an annual
condition inspection, including FAA regulations; theory of flight;
weight & loading; general inspection procedures; aircraft
hardware, propulsion system inspection; cart/trike inspection;
canopy/wing inspection, instrumentation, electrical, and avionics
inspection; control system inspection; and other topics.
Aviation clubs or organizations interested in hosting a course
at their location are invited to contact Sport Aviation
Specialties.
