Entry Deadline For The 2013 EAA AirVenture Cup Race Fast Approaching

Applications Must Be Made By July 1

The entry deadline for the EAA AirVenture Cup Race is July 1, 2013 and race organizers are urging interested participants to get their application in as soon as possible.

In the past, race participants had until a week before the race to submit their applications, but the deadline for entry is earlier this year in order to give EAA time to process registrations and ensure each racer's insurance and documentation is in order. Race organizers are also extending its "early bird" registration fee deadline, saving participants $20.

"We have been running this race for 16 years and, like clockwork, we receive 90% of our race applications just a couple weeks before the race," commented race Chairman, Eric Whyte. "We want to make sure our participants know about the deadline change this year and to get their applications in ASAP. The last thing we want is to turn people away."

The race is open to several new classes of aircraft this year, including production-built aircraft, vintage airplanes, and war birds. Race officials expect anywhere from 50 to 100 participants for 2013 given the addition of the new classes. Details of the race and race applications are available on the organization's website.

The AirVenture Cup Race is a timed race where participants are competing against the clock. This year's course is approximately 400 miles and will start at Mount Vernon Airport (MVN) in Illinois, include two turn points, and end at Waupaca Municipal Airport (PCZ) about 30 miles northwest of Oshkosh. 2013 marks the race's 16th year, with past flying courses that have ranged anywhere from 400 miles to 750 miles cross country towards Oshkosh, WI in advance of EAA AirVenture.
