ISS Crew Will Return At Least One Day Late

More Time For Transfer Of Command

Almost six and a half months in space just isn't long enough for Astronaut Michael Foale and Cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri. They're going to have to stay one more day.

So says a statement from Russia's International Space Station mission control. "Their program has been extended and they need more time in orbit," a spokesman said. "They will return on April 30, not April 29."

Moscow says that extra day will be used to help orient the ninth ISS crew, which is slated to dock with the station on April 19th. New crew members Mike Fincke of the United States and Gennady Padalka of Russia will replace Foale and Kaleri. Dutch astronaut Andre Kuipers is along for the Soyuz ride into orbit. He'll be given another day to conduct his series of experiments, according to a NASA spokesman.
