The newest batch of Brooke Owens Fellows has been announced, adding 51 new additions to the fold of 198 previous alumni. The fellowship aims to bring valuable career building opportunities to women in aviation by matching students to specific intern positions at one of the Fellowship’s industry partners. Once there, the fellow receives 2 senior or executive level mentors, one at their host company, and one somewhere else in the industry. Textron Reports Q4 2021 Results

Flagging Deliveries, Supply Chain Delays, and Termination of Afghanistan Contracts Take Toll

Textron reported its 4th quarter income for 2021, down a bit from 2020, but overall looking quite good going forward, according to chairman of the board and CEO Scott C. Donnelly. “2021 was a solid year for Textron with strong order flow and execution at Aviation, continued progress on Future Vertical Lift programs at Bell, strong execution and margin performance at Systems, and higher revenues and operating profit at Industrial,” said Donnelly. Textron's Aviation arm saw the delivery of 46 jets in 2021, down from 61 the year before. Volunteers Needed to Enact EAA Programs and Promote Aviation Throughout Canada

The Experimental Aviation Association has a need for Canadian Council Members, and is now beginning the search for suitable personnel. Volunteers are those who support the mission off the EAA with a variety of duties to bring aviation to the forefront. They " regularly work with EAA headquarters, EAA chapters, and Canadian members to promote aviation throughout Canada. Members hold quarterly telephone conference calls, as well as gather annually at AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to meet with EAA staff and others. Bell Completes V-22 Osprey Improvements

Simplified, Streamlined Nacelle Changes Speed Maintenance Process, Reduce Costs

The V-22 Osprey has seen the first of the fleet's upcoming enhancements under the Nacelle Improvements Modification program. Bell and Boeing have sought to reduce costs and maintenance time by refining wiring and access components within the engine nacelle. The fix has intruiged other domestic operators of the aircraft type, with the Marine Corps and Navy citing interest in acquiring the same nacelle improvements for their MV-22 and CMV-22B variants.

Elroy Air Unveils Chaparral Cargo Drone

Hybrid VTOL Looks to Fill in Gaps In Supply Chain

Elroy Air released initial information on its upcoming autonomous cargo drone, slated to carry anywhere from 300-500 lbs of cargo up to 300 miles. While not too far off from the design of other commercial drone aircraft, the fixed- wing VTOL features a stout looking cargo pod attached to its fuselage. The Chaparral, as it’s called, boasts a slightly bigger size than other delivery drones, being designed for true cargo carriage instead of home service. The size appears perfect for flying the penultimate leg of a suburban haul from Amazon Prime, if photos are any indication.

Airbus completed the first test flight of its regional commuter,  demonstration aircraft for the Clean Sky 2 program. The company sent its C295, currently named “Flight Test Bed 2”, off from its final assembly point in Seville, Spain. NTSB Prelim: Piper PA-32R-300

The Airplane Impacted A Wooded Hillside About 2.0 Miles South Of The Runway

On December 17, 2021, at 2008 eastern standard time (est), a Piper PA-32R-300 airplane, N5677V, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near the Monroe County Airport (BMG), Bloomington, Indiana. The pilot was fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot initially departed Chicago Executive Airport (PWK) at 1618 central standard time en route to Indianapolis Metro Airport (UMP), arriving at 1844 est. He subsequently departed UMP at 1925 est with an intended destination of BMG.

AD: De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited

AD 2022-01-02 Requires Doing A Detailed Visual Inspection Of The Nacelle To Wing Rear Spar Attachment Pins

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited Model DHC-8-400, -401, and -402 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report that the epoxy primer on the internal bore of the nacelle and landing gear attachment pins was not applied, and corrosion on the internal bore of the wing rear spar attachment pins was found. This AD requires doing a detailed visual inspection of the nacelle to wing rear spar attachment pins, and the nacelle and landing gear attachment pins, for any corrosion, and doing all applicable corrective actions. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus Helicopters Deutschland GmbH (AHD) Model MBB-BK 117 C-2, MBB-BK 117 D-2, and MBB-BK 117 D-3 helicopters. This AD was prompted by reports of engine flame out following prolonged operations in falling snow on helicopters with an inlet barrier filter (IBF) system installed. This AD requires revising the existing Rotorcraft Flight Manual (RFM) for your helicopter, as specified in a European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) AD, which is incorporated by reference.
