Virgin Orbit Set for Jan. 12 Launch

Low Earth Orbit, Air-Launched Sats will Study Communications, Survey Land, and Study Orbital Debris

Virgin's space delivery company Virgin Orbit has announced its launch window for the next air launched satellite delivery, titled "Above the Clouds". The launch is expected to take place on January 12, 2022 when a trio of small satellites are sent into Low Earth Orbit at 310 miles. Those aboard include a unit from Spire Global, Polish outfit SatRevolution, and the US DoD Space Test Program. Orbit's launch systems vary from the garden variety rocket systems, instead operating with the use of Cosmic Girl, a Boeing 747-400 that mounts a space-bound rocket on its engine transfer pylon. Pandemic Concerns Lead to 2nd Cancellation of Conference

The upcoming Ultralight and Light Sport Safety Symposium has been canceled, according to an official communique from its sponsoring body, the Illinois Ultralight Advisory Council. The organization has decided that ahead of a projected rise in COVID-19 cases, their safety-themed event would be better off postponed until the pandemic threat is sufficiently reduced. "With the continuing threat of COVID-19 cases, and the extra threat from the variants, we felt that it was prudent to cancel the event for safety reasons. Paragon Space Development has agreed to purchase Final Frontier Design, a supplier and designer for spacesuits and their survival equipment to NASA and other space agencies. UND Selects PPL Scholarship Recipients

25 US Military Veterans to Receive Private Pilot Tuition

The UND Aerospace Foundation has announced a $300,000 award from The Ray Foundation for the exclusive use for scholarships to aid 25 US military veterans in their quest to become aviators. The scholarships will cover an estimated 80% of the costs to obtain a Private Pilot certificate at the UND Phoenix Flight Training Center from February 2022 onwards. Once they have their PPL in hand, students will be in a position to use their GI Bill benefits to continue their training on to advanced training certifications to begin a career as a professional aviator. Aircraft seat crafter Latitude Aero announced the addition of their new marketing coordinator Emma Reno. She will be responsible for researching and analyzing the trends of the aircraft interior and seating market, as well as helping to develop coherent, company-wide marketing strategies. Reno is a recent graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS in Marketing. She returns to the company in her new role, having been with the business from the very start before attending college. Sonex Aircraft, Aerospace Sold to Employee

Operations Will Continue as Normal, New Products Allegedly Incoming For AirVenture 2022

The light aircraft manufacturer based out of the world's aviation hub of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is under new ownership after the assets of both Sonex Aircraft and Sonex Aerospace were purchased by company man Mark Schaible. The two have been joined to form Sonex, LLC for the continued operation and support for kit aircraft and upcoming designs. The staff of Sonex have been retained, and the new ownership says that little change will be seen for current customers and outstanding orders. Products will ship as usual, parts will still be available, and development on projects in the works will continue just as they did under founder John Monnett’s tenure.

On December 10, 2021, about 1651 eastern standard time, a Beech V35, N5704V, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Crab Orchard, Kentucky. The private pilot and one passenger were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.
