As always in California, things just keep getting better... not. A long running dispute with locals about the impact of airborne lead has finally taken effect, banning the sale and distribution of 100LL fuel at Reid-Hillview and San Martin, both airports within the Santa Clara area. Airport authorities note that 2 of the 4 fuel providers at Reid have already switched to Swift Fuels brand UL94, the only available unleaded aviation gasoline in the region. The remaining providers are expected to transition, with the only fuels to be sold being JetA or UL94. Those natives who wish to use the unleaded gas will require an STC beforehand. New IXPE Spacecraft Launches to Analyze X-Ray Spectra

NASA launched its new X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) mission aboard a SpaceX Falcon9 rocket on December 9 from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The joint mission with the Italian Space Agency, the IXPE observatory is the first mission dedicated entirely to studying the polarization of X-rays from some of the oddest objects in the universe, including supernova black holes, high-energy stars, and other phenomena too difficult to study with terrestrial equipment.

New Jets Join Previous Embraer ERJs in Public Service

The Brazilian Federales received an addition to their private air force in a ceremony held in Brasília to celebrate the arrival of two new E175 jets. The first, formerly a United Kingdom aircraft, underwent a series of adjustments and updates at Embraer adjunct OGMA in Portugal to update it to Brazilian operational requirements. Once complete, it was given a suitable paint scheme for its life in service, where it will serve as a multi-function runabout for agency personnel in the expansive territory under their jurisdiction.

On November 23, 2021, about 1032, an experimental amateur-built Zenith Zodiac 601XL, N601KS, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident in Temecula, California. The pilot was fatally injured. AD 2021-22-08 Requires Establishing Life Limits And CMR Tasks For Various Parts

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for Hélicoptères Guimbal (HG) Model Cabri G2 helicopters. This AD was prompted by the determination that certain parts need life limits and certification maintenance requirement (CMR) tasks. This AD requires establishing life limits and CMR tasks for various parts and removing any parts from service that have reached or exceeded their life limits. Depending on the results of the CMR tasks, this AD requires corrective action. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products. This AD is effective January 13, 2022.
