Airborne 01.06.20: Evolution E5 Upgrade, Super Bowl TFR, FSANA 2020

Aspen Avionics has announced new features and functions for the E5 EFI. When introduced in 2018, the Evolution E5 EFI combined an attitude indicator plus DG/CDI into a single display. Aspen has since responded with a new software release for those who prefer a more traditional HSI. Aircraft owners who already own Aspen’s Evolution E5 can update their current display through an Aspen authorized dealer who will enter the change with a logbook entry. New E5 displays will begin shipping immediately with the HSI feature. Contact Approach An approach wherein an aircraft on an IFR flight plan, having an air traffic control authorization, operating clear of clouds with at least 1 mile flight visibility and a reasonable expectation of continuing to the destination airport in those conditions, may deviate from the instrument approach procedure and proceed to the destination airport by visual reference to the surface.
