Airborne 04.04.19: Chipper SS, Trojan Trig, ForeFlight Passenger

Chipper Aerospace has publicly unveiled an easy-to-build ultralight with the introduction of the Chipper SS (Single Seat). James Wiebe, Belite/Chipper’s president and CEO, debuted the Chipper, which can be built as either a Part 103 ultralight or Experimental airplane. The Chipper SS Kit is introduced at $8,500. The  Trojan Phlyers Flight Demonstration Team has selected Trig Avionics for their ADS-B and VHF avionics. The Trojan Phlyers can be seen at displays across the summer,

The NTSB has released its preliminary report from an accident which occurred February 23 in Winter Haven, FL. The commercially-rated instructor pilot was fatally injured when the airplane, a STOL Aircraft Corp UC-1 amphibious airplane, impacted a house shortly after takeoff from Winter Haven Regional Airport (KGIF), Winter Haven, FL. A commercially-rated pilot who was receiving instruction in the airplane sustained minor injuries.

Opener Names Ben Diachun President

Garmin has announced the availability of datalink weather broadcast through a technology demonstration in Friedrichshafen, Germany (EDNY). Using a ground-based Universal Access Transceiver (UAT) that is comprised of Garmin hardware at the EDNY airport, weather information is broadcast and received by aircraft equipped with select Garmin ADS-B In products and displayed on Garmin avionics and portables. For appropriately equipped aircraft, there is no additional cost to receive weather information during this evaluation period, which is expected to end in Q4 of 2019.
